Listerine Baking Soda Foot Soak Recipe For Dry Feet

Here is a simple but effective Listerine baking soda foot soak recipe for dry feet, calluses, smelly feet, and toenail fungus that you can easily make at home. This foot soak recipe contains 3 main ingredients and is being used with great success worldwide.

All home remedies come with side effects, especially for those with sensitive skin. That said, Listerine is used in the mouth to contain healthy ingredients and little side effects. Epsom salt is used in bath water to reduce skin and health issues so it’s usually safe for most people

However, it is always recommended that you perform a skin patch test before using any concoction on your skin. To do one, apply a little bit of the mixture on your inner upper arm and if there is redness, swelling, or itching, it means that you are allergic.

Listerine Baking Soda Foot Soak Benefits

Listerine – contains four essential oils, methyl salicylate, eucalyptol, menthol, and thymol. All of these essential oils have anti-plaque properties which means they destroy bacteria that form on the teeth. Interestingly, when used as a foot soak, it provides the same benefits.

This is great for those with toenail fungus, athlete’s foot, and other mild infections of the feet. When it comes to removing dead skin though, methyl salicylate is what gets the job done because it’s very similar to a chemical exfoliant called Salicylic acid.

Baking Soda – contains sodium carbonate, when applied to the skin, this chemical acts as a gentle exfoliant and restores soft skin. Baking soda contains anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties so adding it to your foot soak can help reduce common skin problems like eczema symptoms, rashes, dry feet, corns, and rough calluses.

Warm Water – is nature’s cure, simply soaking your feet in warm water for 30 minutes can help improve circulation! Warm water makes your blood vessels bigger which helps blood circulate better in your legs and feet making your feet look younger.

Apart from its amazing benefits, soaking your feet in warm water a few times per week can also help soften dead skin so now you know the benefits of this foot soak, let’s get on with the recipe!

Ingredients for 1 soak:

  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • 1 cup of Listerine
  • 1 liter of warm water

How To Make Listerine Baking Powder Foot Soak

Simple mix the Listerine, and baking soda with the warm water until fully combined and soak your feet in it for 20-30 minutes once or twice per week to reduce fungal infections and soften your cracked heels. Use a soft loofah or brush and gently scrub off the dead skin.

After soaking your feet, rinse with warm water and pat with a dry towel. You can also get rid of dead skin easily around your toenails by simply scrubbing them off as well.

Once you are satisfied, rinse your feet with warm water and dry it. Apply a little bit of Vaseline, coconut oil, or olive oil to make your feet even softer and prevent dryness caused by the baking soda.

Listerine Baking Soda Foot Soak Side Effects

Listerine combined with baking soda is usually safe for most people but as I mentioned above, it may cause mild side effects like skin irritation in people with sensitive skin. That’s why I always recommend doing a simple skin patch test at home.

You may also experience dizziness, lightheadedness, and dry skin after doing an Epsom salt foot soak if you soak your feet too long because of over-absorption of magnesium sulfate.

Baking soda causes dryness of the skin so it’s important that you use one of the oils mentioned above after doing this soak.

Also, avoid using this foot soak if your skin is infected, swollen, have cuts, blisters, or burns to prevent a burning sensation.

Finally, people with allergic reactions to the active ingredients in Listerine should NOT use this foot soak. To find out which ingredients, simply read the ingredient section on the bottle.
