Easy Homemade Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub
This easy homemade brown sugar scrub is very simple and requires only 4 main ingredients. You may also want to check out my oatmeal sugar scrub, or my brown sugar face scrub recipes as well.
Ingredients
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- ½ cup of organic virgin coconut oil
- ½ teaspoon vitamin E oil
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
How To Make This Homemade Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub
Simply mix all of the above ingredients in a blender or bowl. I only use a spoon and a clean bowl to make mine. Make sure the coconut oil is not liquid because you want a firm texture.
To use your scrub, apply it to your hands, feet, body, lips, or even your face, and using your fingertips, begin to scrub in a circular motion gently.
Leave it on for 4-5 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water, and pat the area dry with a clean towel. Use this scrub once or twice per week for better results.
Benefits Of This Brown Sugar Scrub
Brown sugar – exfoliates the skin, removes dead skin cells, improves complexion, locks moisture into the skin thanks to glycolic acid, cleanses your pores, and stimulates collagen production.
Coconut oil – is packed with antioxidants and has anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, healing, cleansing, and anti-aging properties.
Vitamin E oil – helps preserve your sugar scrub and is packed with antioxidants making it great for most skin types. Some of the conditions it helps with are dry or itchy skin, psoriasis, and eczema, which may also heal wounds, and prevent premature wrinkles, and scars.
Vanilla extract – not only makes your sugar scrub smell amazing but it also helps reduce scars and breakouts, soothes the skin, protects the skin from toxins, contains vitamin B, and contains anti-aging properties.
How To Store This Sugar Scrub
You can store leftover scrub in an airtight container, I use a mason jar with a lid, and throw it in the fridge for up to a month. You can keep it in your bathroom but I find that it melts, you can always freeze it for a firmer consistency.
How Often Should You Use a Sugar Scrub?
Well, it really depends on your skin type but in most cases, 2-3 times per week is enough to get you good results. With that being said, you may want to reduce that number to once per week if you have sensitive skin.
Also, it’s important to know that over-exfoliating can irritate and even damage your skin so here are some exfoliating rules for different skin types.
- For normal skin types that don’t dry out easily or secret excessive oil, exfoliating 2-3 times per week is usually safe.
- For sensitive skin types, only once per week.
- For oily or acne-prone skin types, twice per week is okay.
Note: The rules above are for your face, you can use this scrub as much as you want on your body.
