Also, experimenting with different products and techniques to find what works best for your hair is very important because every hair type is different.

Hot Oil Treatment For Damaged Curls

1. Hot Oil Treatment For Damaged Curls

Curly hair is usually on the drier side because the natural oils produced by your scalp have a harder time making their way down those twisty strands. That’s where the hot oil treatment comes in!

Heating up some coconut or argan oil, and massaging it into your curls and scalp helps open up the hair cuticles. This allows the nutrients from the oils to penetrate deep into your strands. It’s like a spa day for your hair!

Hot oil treatment not only hydrates and moisturizes your hair but also helps reduce frizz and adds that extra shine we all crave. Plus, it can make your curls more manageable and easier to style.

Make sure to massage those oils into your scalp as well!

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 tablespoon of organic coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of organic argan oil

Heat the oils in the microwave for 10-15 seconds or until the coconut oil melts and apply it to your scalp and hair strands. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let your scalp absorb the oils for 30 minutes.

Rinse your hair with warm water or if you are going out, wash it with an all-natural shampoo.

Note: to make your hair grow even faster, you can try this amazing oil mixture that I’ve been using for a while.

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp. organic coconut oil
1 Tbsp. organic argan oil
1 tsp. organic neem oil or jojoba oil
1 tsp. organic castor oil
7 drops organic cedarwood essential oil
4 drops vitamin E oil

Banana Hair Masks for dull and Damaged Hair

2. Banana Hair Masks for dull and Damaged Hair

Bananas are packed with potassium and natural oils that help soften your hair and keep it moist. Honey is a natural humectant meaning it helps your hair attract and retain moisture.

Olive oil is loaded with healthy fats that penetrate your hair shafts, making your hair smoother, shinier, and more manageable. Yogurt is packed with proteins which help strengthen your hair and give it that extra oomph.

Applying this banana hair mask regularly to your curls will make them super soft and bouncy plus it even helps reduce frizz!

Ingredients:

  • 2 Bananas (pureed)
  • 8 drops of organic virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 2 tbsp Yogurt

Preparation & Application

Combine olive oil, and bananas and add in the honey and yogurt. Blend until smooth and apply the mixture to your hair, make sure to coat every strand.

Place a plastic shower cap over your hair and let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing it well with normal water.

Avocado & Coconut Oil Hair Mask For Curly Hair

3. Avocado & Coconut Oil Hair Mask For Curly Hair

Avocado contains healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals so applying it to your hair has its benefits. Similar to the banana hair mask above, avocado will make your curls shine and keep them moist for days.

Coconut oil penetrates your hair shaft and locks in moisture, strengthens your hair follicles, and prevents those annoying frizzies.

Ingredients:

  • 1 very ripe avocado (cored & pureed)
  • 1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil (melted)

Preparation & application:

Mix both ingredients and apply them to your hair and scalp. Leave it on for 30-40 minutes and wash it off with warm water using a sulfur-free shampoo. This hair mask can be used once per week.

Coconut Milk & Honey Mask For Curly Hair

4. Coconut Milk & Honey Mask For Curly Hair

Coconut milk and honey are two natural ingredients that are great for hair growth. They are both rich in moisture, which is essential for keeping the hair healthy and protected from damage. This repairing hair mask is also perfect for dry and colored damaged hair.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of pure organic coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon of pure organic honey

Preparation & Application:

Mix both ingredients and apply them to your hair and scalp, cover with a shower cap, and let the milk and honey soak in for 15-30 minutes before washing it off with warm water. Use an herbal shampoo afterward.

Tips For Washing, Brushing & Detangling Curly Hair

Here are some tips for washing, brushing, and detangling curls that I use all the time. These tips work for people with regular hair as well so definitely dive in.

Step 1- Water Temp – Never wash your hair with very hot water, use warm water instead. That’s because hot water strips your hair or essential oils and nutrients plus makes your hair dry.

Step 2- Scalp Massage– When washing your curls or any hair type for that matter, always start by massaging the shampoo into your scalp in a back-and-forth motion first before working it out to your hair strands.

This helps remove dirt, and oil and improve circulation in the scalp.

Step 3- Figer comb & rinse – make sure to run your fingers through your hair like a comb while rinsing your hair to reduce tangles.

Step 4- Condition, dry & brush – for your final steps, wring your hair out of excess water, apply conditioner, and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Use a towel to dry your curls but you want to use a patting motion starting from the hair ends to the scalp instead to prevent breakage.

Now it is time for brushing, this step is important so pay attention: while your curls are still wet or damp, begin brushing slowly from the bottom upwards. I always use a leave-in conditioner which helps my curls detangle quickly and you should too.

When To Wash Your Curly Hair

Always wash your curls in the morning or later in the day and not before bedtime. That’s because your curls are most fragile when they are wet and sleeping with wet hair can cause your hair to break. If you do decide to wash it at night, make sure to blow dry it completely.
